BAGUIO City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has accepted the commitment given by bar owners but reminded the group of a strict compliance with the law.

Magalong said his acceptance of the commitment comes with the understanding that establishments with permits will resume operations based on licenses issued, stressing holders of restaurant and coffee shop permits should operate as such and not as bars.

The mayor said watchful eyes will be cast over the establishments by village officials as well as citizens whom he encouraged to report any illegal operations to the government.

Magalong enjoined all sectors to be vigilant in monitoring establishments as well as strict compliance with city laws.

Last week, a commitment from the Baguio Association of Bars and Entertainers (Babes) was given vowing to clean up their areas and abide by city laws.

Magalong has kept bars closed in a move to protect the youth after reports of molestation of women, minors being allowed to enter bars, there is no control of the youth getting heavily drunk have reached his office forcing the closure.

The neophyte mayor rejected the first manifesto of commitment given by the bar owners saying it lacked sincerity and resolve.

Bar owners pledged to protect the youth by not allowing minors within night spots and to be on the lookout on the presence of drugs and drug use.
