DONATION of gadgets is being eyed in the Summer Capital.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda is spearheading a fund drive through a resolution to help the Department of Education's (DepEd) program on continuing education through blended learning.

"Many students, especially the indigent ones, are apprehensive that they cannot cope with the demands of the new modality since they do not have the needed electronic gadget such as a notepad or a tablet, personal computer or a laptop to use for the online class. This is despite the manifestation of the DepEd that the printed materials shall be distributed to areas with no internet connection or to students who cannot do online class within their financial resources," Tabanda said.

The councilor said the blended learning system is an education approach that combines online or virtual class setting and the learning modular materials. It does away with the regular classroom or face-to-face setting in compliance with the strict health protocol due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"DepEd Baguio Division has categorically stated that it does sufficient funds to provide all the resources needed to carry out its program," Tabanda said.

The resolution was approved in the City Council by the entire legislative body.

Tabanda also asked Mayor Benjamin Magalong to initiate the fund drive for deserving city students so as not to diminish the interest of the students and later on, the opportunities in life, through education, and realizing the predicament of the students.

"The City Government of Baguio has accepted the challenge to come to the aid of the needy impoverished students who cannot afford to buy the needed learning gadget. Along with the other LGUs of the country, the City Government has decided to initiate a fund raising drive to solicit gadget, resources to be able to provide the needed learning resources gadget to deserving, indigent students of the city," Tabanda said.
