Geohazard study sought on Mines View

Sunnexdesk

THE Baguio City Council asked departments concerned to immediately conduct a joint geotechnical investigation to determine the soil condition at Mines View Park.

The body approved Resolution 6, series of 2019 proposed by Councilor Elmer Datuin.

Datuin said residents of Mines View Park were alarmed upon observing ground cracks that are visible within the area. The residents were worried that these cracks pose danger to them, as well as topark goers and business establishments operating within and around the area.

“The conduct of a thorough study on the soil condition of Mines View Park is highly required at the soonest possible time to determine what corrective measures to be instigated, if need be, to prevent possible widespread damage,” the resolution noted.

The council asked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Baguio City District Engineering Office, and the City Engineering Office to spearhead the study.

The departments were tasked to submit a report to the City Council and to implement corrective measures immediately.

The committee on urban planning, lands and housing recommended the adoption of the measure. (PR)
