'Kain Na' launched

A FOOD festival is set next month, highlighting food from Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera.

Jovie Ganongan, officer-in-charge of the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Cordillera, announced the opening of "Kain Na," which is on October 11-13, at the Ayala Techno Hub at Camp John Hay.

Key event features food expo showcasing culinary tourism, farmers products and specialized chef tables.

"Kain na" is eyed to be a regional gathering for those in the food industry and become a food corners for the public.

The food fair will be a tasting event designed to highlight regional heritage dishes, iconic dishes, local chefs and farm products.

Ganongan said the event will be a venue for local chefs to highlight their cuisine as well as farm to table dishes.

"This will be a chance for farmers to showcase products to be able to mobilize a network of stakeholders," Ganongan said.

Ganongan said the DOT will partner with the Department of Agriculture to strengthen the farm to table movement eyed to be established.

"Kain Na" aims to sustain the development and the promotion of the Philippines as a center of food and gastronomy.
