Online cockfighting bettors arrested

TWENTY-ONE individuals were arrested by operatives of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group - Cordillera Administrative Region (CIDG-CAR) following the implementation of a search warrant for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 (Prescribing Stiffer Penalties on Illegal Gambling) on March 29 in Kayang, Baguio City.

In a report, operatives from BCPO confiscated cash amounting to P8,644 in different denominations, playing cards, television set, and WiFi units.

In a separate operation on April 1, 14 individuals were also arrested for illegal gambling in Barangay San Luis, Baguio City and Camp 1, Tuba, Benguet.

The arrest was made after a concerned citizen informed police of an ongoing illegal gambling activity of nine individuals in Purok 8, Sampaguita Site, San Luis, Baguio City.

Seized from the individuals were a deck of playing cards, P620 cash in different denominations, three lifeless fighting cock, one live wounded fighting cock; and other items used by the suspects in their illegal gambling activities.
