SEVEN cheated death after their passenger van was hit by boulders at Sitio Kaipilan, Barangay Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet on May 20.

In a report from the Tuba Municipal Police Station (MPS), the van was being driven by its owner, Aldiane Reyes Suares, when boulders suddenly rolled down from the mountain.

The boulders smashed into the van causing Suares to lose control of the vehicle, before crashing into a concrete barrier.

Passengers who were hurt during the accident are Christian Banaga, 31, of Bacoor, Cavite; Merideth Galicia, 56; Rogelio Legaspi, 57; Roella Banaga Legaspi, 29; Rona Suarez Legaspi, 30 and two minors.

Police said the passengers came from Baguio City and were on their way back to Planas, Tondo-Manila.

Aside from Tuba police, members of the Baguio City’s 911 On Call responded to the site who administered initial first aid before transporting the victims to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

Tuba MPS head Chief Inspector James Acod is set to meet with representatives of the Regional Public Works and Highways Department to discuss about additional safety measures to prevent future accidents from happening along the stretch of Kennon road.
