BENGUET caretaker Eric Go Yap on Thursday, May 28, filed House Bill No. 6851 or the “Benguet Province Tesda Training and Assessment Centers Act.”

The Lower House measure seeks to establish a Technical Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Center in each of the municipalities in the Province of Benguet, namely Atok, Bakun, Bokod, Buguias, Itogon, Kabayan, Kapangan, Kibungan, La Trinidad, Mankayan, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay.

“In consistence with the thrust of Mobile Tulong – a program we launched last April in which we directly deliver our services and assistance to our constituents around Benguet – we are putting forward the establishment of a Tesda Training and Assessment Center in each of the Municipality in our Province,” Yap said.

Yap said the goal of the proposed law is to bring the technical at vocational training skills development programs closer to the people of Benguet.

“Once the Centers are established, there will be no need for those enrolled in the program to go extra miles just to attend the training. Instead of spending on rent and transportation, they could redirect their budget to their other priorities,” added the lawmaker.

The caretaker and ACT–CIS party list representative added the proposed Tesda Center will give opportunity for those interested to learn new skills.

Yap said through the programs offered by Tesda, learners will be equipped with basic practical knowledge and technical expertise they can use to be self-reliant, productive, and employable.

“Here in Benguet, we are inherently community-centered. As much as the establishment of Tesda Centers provides for self-improvement, it also promotes for community involvement. With their enhanced capacities, individuals also build up their communities to be more efficient and progressive,” Yap added. (SunStar Baguio)
