LA TRINIDAD Mayor Romeo Salda asked potential tourists in Benguet’s capital town to use public transport this holiday season to ease traffic congestion.

“To decongest traffic, they should commute through jeepney. We have seen that once every tourist brings their own vehicle, this creates traffic,” says the mayor.

With the Yuletide season, traffic scheme plans are now underway, according to La Trinidad Municipal Police Station Chief Inspector Jeoffer Banglayan.

Ongoing plans for the traffic scheme is being prepared by the police for La Trinidad including the strawberry farm, which is one of the top tourist spots in the valley. The area is recommended to have one-way entrance to the farm of which the specific dates of the scheme have yet to be identified.

Usual traffic jams occur in the areas near tourist spots like the Bell Church, La Trinidad Trading Post, Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center and Strawberry farm.

Banglayan also reminded motorists and pedestrians to uphold discipline in following traffic rules.

Motorists particularly those carrying passengers should always load and unload in the designated loading and unloading places, added the top cop.

Aside from traffic, the mayor relayed additional deputation from volunteer groups for the implementation of no-smoking with the aid of women’s brigade, barangay tanod, and personnel from the Philippine National Police.

A speaker will be installed within the strawberry farm to give guidance and awareness for tourists to be aware of pickpockets, among others.

Data from municipal tourism office noted 750,000 to 800,000 annual same day visitors with 35,000 to 40,000 staying overnight.
