Wounded cop gets medal

FOLLOWING an encounter with communist terrorist group, Police Corporal Irpeel Lapniten of the Regional Mobile Force, 1502nd Company was awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting for his bravery.

Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde on Saturday, March 30, visited and bestowed the award to the officer after the encounter with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Bauko, Mountain Province Friday morning, March 29.

Albayalde added fallen Patrolman Wilfredo Padawil, also from the 1502nd Company and resident of Tetep-an, Sagada, Mountain Province who died will be given assistance and a posthumous award.

On the same day, Lapniten and his family received the award and cash assistance.

Lapniten of Bayoyo, Buyacaoan, Buguias, sustained injuries in his left neck after the attack.

Albayalde, meanwhile, said Philippine Army augmented its force on March 29 and personnel from the regional mobile group.

“As of this time, continuous pa rin iyong operation, hindi tayo titigil. Sabi ng Pangulo kailangan maubos na iyan at matapos and problema sa insurgency even before his term,” Albayalde added.

Prior to his meeting with Lapniten, the police general said the encounter may have a resulting effect on the opposing party.

"They also believe na may natamaan sa kabila that’s why we are trying to validate the information,” added Albayalde.

Lapniten is supposed to pin the medal of her eldest nine-year-old daughter being the top of their class.
