Alambra: Baguio Flower Festival: Expand the flower floats parade route

Aurora Verceles Alambra

FRIENDS from far and wide!

This coming weekend is the grand finale of the annual Baguio Flower Festival!

Dubbed “Panagbenga” – the Season for Blossoming – it is one of the most awaited weekends in my home city!

I am looking forward to Sunday’s Grand Float Parade of fresh flowers handpicked from the flower gardens of the Philippines flower capital – Baguio City’s mother province Benguet (pronounced “Beng-get”)

After the parade, the flower floats are parked either at the Burnham Park’s Melvin Jones Football Ground or at the Athletic Bowl – both venues just a few steps from home!

So near for gawking at the blooms – and for picking.

With the float owner’s permission, of course.

PANAGBENGA WISHES

[1] Expand floats-viewing time:

Calling on the City Tourism Office, the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, and the float owners to have the flower floats stand for viewing untouched until sundown – and even overnight?

To give time and opportunity for residents and visitors and tourists alike to view the floats up close, and to marvel at their intricate designs and blooms, before opening them for flower picking – the most awaited conclusion of the Grand Float Parade.

[2] Expand float parade route:

I propose that the float parade route be expanded to, say, around the Burnham Park...

So that the watching public will not have to elbow for viewing space in jam-packed Session Road and Harrison Road.

Many thanks in advance! Diyos ti ag-ngina!
