Cordillera athletes to be featured in athletic bowl murals

CORDILLERANS who carved outstanding marks in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) lead the lay-outing of two murals titled Heroes: Portrait of the Baguio-Cordillera Athletes at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

The first mural, dubbed “Heroes/Legends,” features athletes who compete and hauled medals from the Olympics, Asian Games, and Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The athletes are two-time Olympians Hector Begeo and Jerry Diño, SEA games Javelin Queen Erlinda Lavandia, World boxing champion Rey Tam, Wushu Champion Divine Wally, Taekwondo medallist Jeordan Dominguez, and others.

It will be painted at the walls of the long stage dugout of the athletic bowl. The mural will be made of acrylic on cement at 7 feet by 11 feet. The artist is Gladys Ann Labsan.

The second mural portraits the champions of MMA mostly from the famous Team Lakay. They are Eduard Folayang, Mark Sangiao, Geje Eustaquio, Kevin Belingon, Joshua Pacio, Honorio Banario, Stephen Loman and Cris Pitpitunge.

It is an acrylic on cement at the walls near the former tourism office inside the Baguio Athletic Bowl. The artist is Harold Banario.

The two artworks are sponsored by Davies paints.

The athletes will also be featured in a photo exhibit at the Baguio City Hall lobby. They will be wearing the traditional attires of their respective indigenous peoples groups or tribes. This is part of the observance of the IP month this October. The artist is Eliza Consul. (Roderick Osis)
