THE Baguio City Council commended a mixed martial arts world champion for bringing honor not only to the country but also to Baguio City.

Councilor Arthur Allad-iw filed the proposed resolution lauding Stephen Loman of Team Lakay after successfully defending the Brave Combat Federation (CF) world bantamweight title against Frans Mlambo in Belfast, Northern Ireland on June 19.

“Loman gloriously defended and refused to give away his bantamweight title by defeating his opponent and won via unanimous decision during their rematch,” said the commendation.

At present, the Team Lakay champion is the youngest and the first Asian bantamweight title holder.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that Loman’s achievement has not only brought honor to himself and his family but to the whole city, region and country as well.

During his first title defense, Loman’s mother reached to Belfast to support her son. Throughout the week, Naty Nabehet was part of the team that helped Loman to prepare for his title defense.

The support, determination and bravery of Nabehet was hailed and praised as she joined the main stage after Loman emerged as the winner

“I am so proud of my son. Because he made a choice and did followed it through. And he is a good fighter and humble. He had trained hard for every fight. So, all we have to do is to give him our full support. Of course, we pray a lot and he will be protected. I think he did well and we are all very proud of him. The family, friends and the loved ones back home are really proud of him,” adds Loman’s mother. (Roderick Osis)
