Martin retires Chinese challenger

IFUGAO boxing sensation Carl Jammes Martin retired his opponent in the sixth round to retain the World Boxing Organization Oriental Youth Bantamweight title.

Martin remained undefeated after 10 professional bouts after pummeling challenger Huerban Qiatehe at the Plaza Bayombong in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

Right from the start, Martin aggressively landed series of combinations to stun his opponent and kept going until Qiatehe can no longer bear the brunt of his powerful punches and decided to call it a night.

In retaining his WBO youth title, the 19 – year - old Martin has acquired the Luzproba, Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF), WBC ABCO, and WBA Asia titles since turning pro two years ago.

Martin won the vacant WBO Oriental Youth 118lb division title in April when he stopped Tanzanian Hashimu Zuberi in two rounds at the Lagawe Central School Gym.

In the supporting bout, Roy Nagulman scored a sensational fourth round knockout against jerry Mae Villagracia to improve his record to five wins, and two draws while his opponent dropped to 6-5, losing four fights in a row.

Michael Mendoza secured a split decision win against John Magagmoc in their eight round flyweight match while Paolo Sy halted Joshua Philip Tuguinay’s three fight win streak with a fourth round technical knock-out in their light flyweight contest.

Evander Dogwe impressed the judges enroute to a unanimous decision win against Alex Isidro in their four rounder light flyweight encounter as Ryan Fullero made a rousing debut after edging Eufemio Gamangan via unanimous decision in their minimum weight contest. (Roderick Osis)
