No retirement plans yet for Folayang

DESPITE failing to return to the winning circle, Eduard Folayang is not contemplating on retiring yet.

Antonio Caruso snagged the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career after putting on a performance to remember at the Singapore Indoor Stadium defeating former ONE lightweight world champion Folayang at ONE: Inside the Matrix on Friday.

Caruso moved up to 8-1 in his career, while Folayang fell to 22-10.

"Things might not go as planned, but it's a sport. Everything happens inside the ring," Folayang said.

But Folayang, as optimistic as he is, said he wasn't able to execute the game plan, which is, to defeat Caruso.

"I really need to asses my performance. These are just one of the season but we will be back in the wining circle," added Folayang.

Folayang added things might have been different if there was no pandemic with the series of lockdowns in Baguio City and Benguet, which have restricted their movement, particularly their training.

Caruso started off the bout strong, sticking multiple takedowns and attacking with various submission attempts in the first two rounds.

Folayang, however, came alive in the third behind a steady leg kick game that had Caruso immobilized. In the end, all three judges scored the bout in favor of Caruso.

Caruso, at the end of the bout, was all praises for the former champion who has been following Folayang since the start of ONE and told the Igorot warrior he was glad they fought together.
