Ulysses aftermath postpones virtual run

FOLLOWING the effects of Typhoon Ulysses, organizers of the Three-Hour Virtual Run Challenge slated November 14 to 15 will be moved next week.

The virtual fun run was moved to November 21 to 22 after organizers ViRAJo Sports and Recreational Camp cited uneven terrain brought about by the typhoon, which lashed Baguio and Benguet.

“Uneven terrain can be hazardous, particularly when wet and slippery due to poor weather conditions. Concerning the safety of our participants and respective parties, November 14 – 15 schedules will be moved to November 21 – 22,” Virago Bike & Run Events, the organizers, said on their Facebook page.

Organizers apologized to participants and urged them to contact Virago immediately for changes.

The virtual run will see limited participation as the track is only three kilometers long, with only 15 per category allowed to run in the three-hour race, while 20 per category will be allowed in the one-lap run and only 20 per category in the 8 to 12 years old kiddie race.

Marites Bitbit of Virago said the more rounds a participant makes, the better chance of winning the race.

The 2005 and 2007 Southeast Asian Games bike road race gold medalist said the event is in partnership with the City Government of Baguio through the city sports and city tourism office and Loakan Proper Barangay.

“The race is limited to runners from Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay and on a first-come, first-served basis,” said Bitbit.

Bitbit recently opened a mountain bike course in Loakan, which is now becoming a favorite for mountain biking enthusiasts.
