Jo Ann Sablad

WITH the peace and order situation in Mindanao in better shape, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa) Deputy Executive Director Romeo Montenegro said this is an incentive for the business sector to come in.

Montenegro said investors can either start establishing or expand their businesses in the island. It is also an opportunity for them to set foot in many other areas in the region.

He is also urging the private sector to look into investing in areas where the poverty incidence is high, particularly the rural areas where investments are needed in terms of projects related to agriculture and agri-business.

"Depende man gud kun unsa nga investment type ang naa sa ilahang business interest. But definitely Mindanao can afford to present diverse mix of investments, mapa tourism man, mapa agriculture man, o mapa logistics," Montenegro said.

He added that there is also a high demand in the logistics at present because of the movement of cargoes and demand in a rentals due to the influx of tourists.

"Over all, the business atmosphere in Mindanao is positive and this is where we would like now business sector to come in," Montenegro said.

"We're seeing improvement, although daghan pa ang dapat himuon in many other areas in Mindanao," he added.
