19 homes in Camaman-an on list to be demolished

PJ Orias

OVER 19 families in Bontong, Barangay Camaman-an will be left homeless after a court in Cagayan de Oro ordered to demolish their houses on January 23.

The City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD) however vowed to assist the families but according to their survey only 13 families are qualified to avail the assistance.

The families will receive relocation sites in Barangay Balubal while the land owner will give P20,000 each to the affected families.

The City Social Welfare and Development will distribute food packs and is set to provide a vehicle for the residents to use for their transfer on the day of the demolition.

Meanwhile, another impending demolition is set to happen in Barangay 40.

But the City Council on Monday, January 14, passed a resolution requesting the court to hold in abeyance the scheduled demolition on January 25.

The CHUDD said it needs more time to complete the evaluation of the residents' socio-economic profile.

Under Republic Act 7279 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Urban Development and Housing Program, the City Government, the National Housing Authority, and other government agencies are required to provide relocation to families identified as underprivileged and homeless, affected by the writ of demolition.
