40 more blocks of cocaine found in Surigao del Norte

PJ Orias

FORTY more blocks of cocaine were recovered in the shoreline of Barangay Pacifico, San Isidro, Surigao del Norte, in a follow-up operation by police after the recovery of 36 cocaine blocks on Tuesday last week.

On February 14, residents found 27 bricks of cocaine in the said barangay and on the following day, February 15, 13 more bricks were recovered.

The two operations yielded a total of 40 bricks, weighing 40 kilos with an estimated value of P212 million.

The total value of all bricks found is now at P457,125,000.

Police are looking at a possible drug syndicate behind the floating cocaine bricks in the shores of Surigao.

They are also investigating if the P5 million worth of cocaine found in the seas of Camarines Norte last February 11 have a connection to the cocaine found in the Surigao area.

“We urged the community to continue supporting the PNP especially in our intensified campaign against illegal drugs and criminality. The long arm of the law will surely catch the person/s or syndicate group behind the spread of this illegal substance,” Police Regional Director Gilberto DC Cruz said.

WHERE’S THE WATER? Water is sparse at the Jaclupan wellfield in Talisay City in this photo provided by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) on Friday, April 26, 2024. Completed in 1998, MCWD’s Jaclupan facility, officially known as the Mananga Phase I Project, catches, impounds and pumps out around 30,000 cubic meters of water per day under normal circumstances. However, on Friday, MCWD spokesperson Minerva Gerodias said the facility’s daily production had plummeted to 8,000 cubic meters per day, or just about a quarter of its normal capacity, as Cebu grapples with the effects of the drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to persist until the end of May. The facility supplies water to consumers in Talisay City and Cebu City. /
