Probe on vs scam targeting senior citizens

THE Cagayan de Oro City Government is investigating another alleged scam, this time targeting senior citizens.

City Administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a Jr. said they are investigating the scheme and how it reached the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca).

"Kini nga pagpangilad kulba kaayo kay mohatag ka ug P300, makadawat ka ug P12,000 pension. Hinangal man ni, so clearly it is a scam," Sabuga-a said. "We will not let this pass because we are dealing with our senior citizens."

Sabuga-a also confirmed that the alleged founder, 61-year-old Cres Nilles, is a retired city hall employee.

Police said Nille is enticing senior citizens to give him P300 for his foundation. In return, they will receive a pension worth P12,000 every month, including the possibility of acquiring a house and lot.

Nille will face usurpation of authority and estafa charges. (PJ Orias)
