City awards schools with best waste management practice

THE winning elementary and secondary schools of the Oro Kalimpyo Awards 2019 were named last Friday, January 31, in a ceremony held at the rotunda of Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.

Macasandig Elementary School and Balubal National High School won the first place awards in the competition’s Elementary and Secondary categories, respectively.

Each of the first place schools received a trophy and cash prize worth P30,000.

Coming in second place under the Elementary Category was Pureto Elementary School; followed by the third placer Bulao Elementary School; fourth placer Bulua Central School; and fifth placer Kauswagan Central School.

In the Secondary Category, the second place was awarded to Indahag National High School; third place to Balulang National High School and Puerto National High School; and fourth place to Gusa Regional National High School.

“I’m glad na kita karon sa syudad, we are taking great initiatives in order to move forward,” City Mayor Oscar Moreno said during his message in last Friday’s awarding ceremony.

“If we want Cagayan de Oro to grow, if we want Cagayan de Oro to take the lead in terms of prosperity, if we want Cagayan de Oro to be a model city, if we want Cagayan de Oro to be very, very competitive in all areas, daghan pa gihapon ang angay buhaton pertaining sa environment,” he added.

Moreno also thanked the City Government’s partnered academic institutions for supporting their endeavor to protect and preserve the environment.

“Dagahan kaayo ang atong mga initiatives to not only protect the environment but also to ensure that people live in much improved conditions,” Moreno said.

Apart from awarding the winning elementary and secondary schools, the top 10 qualified barangays in the Sub-Urban, Urban and Hinterland categories were also announced.

In the Hinterland Category, we have Barangays Balubal, Bayanga, Dansolihon, F.S. Catanico, Mambuaya, Pigsag-an, Taglimao, Tagpangi, Tuburan, and Tumpagon.

In the Urban Category: Barangays 5, 11, 14, 22, 24, 27, 32, 34, 39, 9, 33, and 35.

In the Sub-Urban Category: Barangays Agusan, Balulang, Bayabas, Canito-an, Gusa, Iponan, Kauswagan, Pagatpat, Patag, and Tablon.
