Councilor arrested over drugs

PJ Orias

POLICE on Wednesday, January 15, arrested a municipal councilor of Lugait town in Misamis Oriental who is allegedly the region's number one high-value drug target.

Some P100,000 worth of alleged “shabu” or metamphetamine hydrochloride was seized by police from the alleged possession of Dennis Sismar Bacatan, 49, a Lugait municipal councilor.

By virtue of a search warrant, police recovered cash worth P12,800, wallet, four cellphones, a big unsealed plastic sachet containing three medium size sachets believed to contain shabu.

The suspected illegal drugs weigh 15 grams with an estimated market value of P100,000.

Police said they also seized from his possession was a grenade.

Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO- Northern Mindanao) regional director Brigadier General Rolando Anduyan said this serves as a warning to all politicians engaging in illegal drug activities.

"PRO-Northern Mindanao will never hesitate to conduct operation against any individual, either civilian or government employee regardless of their life status as long as we have enough evidence against them," Anduyan said.

"What happened to the municipal councilor of Lugait serves as a warning to politicians to never challenge the capability of the police force in the region because you may be the next target," he added.
