Although the figure is still above the number of cases in 2018, Gonzales said the cases is now below the epidemic threshold.

“We’re below the epidemic threshold for 5 weeks now, the cases have significantly gone down since we started. There are still far less number of deaths,” Gonzales said.

Bukidnon is still the province with the highest number of dengue cases with 8,966 cases and 16 deaths, followed by Misamis Oriental at 4,405 cases and 22 deaths, Lanao del Norte with 3,496 cases and 21 deaths, Misamis Occidental with 2,677 cases and 10 deaths, and Camiguin with 566 deaths and 1 death.

Cagayan de Oro has a total of 3,551 dengue cases and 16 deaths while Iligan City has 1,883 cases with 18 deaths.

“Despite the decline, we will not be complacent, still we have to be vigilant and practice the 5S Strategy : search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; uphold self-protection like using of insect repellents; seek early consultation at the neatest health care facility; support fogging, spraying, and misting in hot spot areas; and sustain hydration,” he said.
