PJ Orias

THE former town mayor of Mahinog in Camiguin was apprehended by authorities on Wednesday, September 18, after his conviction for graft and corruption.

Former Mahinog mayor Alex Rullon Jajalla, 62, was arrested in his hometown by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Sandiganbayan 7th Division.

In October 2018, the Sandiganbayan ruled that Jajalla violated the Republic Act of 3019 or Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act after he granted his brother, Misael Rullon, a leave with pay for six months.

The Office of the Ombudsman said that on July 1, 2008, Jajalla approved the application for rehabilitation leave with pay of his brother, from July 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008, knowing full welly that the latter was not qualified since his injuries were not sustained while in the performance of his official duties.

His brother, Misael, got injured in a motorcycle accident while supposedly on government duty as a security officer. But later, the anti-graft court found out that Misael was with his family on their way to church when they collided with another motorcycle.
