DELIBERATIONS of Cagayan de Oro City’s 2020 budget will start Thursday, November 21.

The city council’s committee of the whole will decide the fate of the P7.5-billion budget proposal of Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Half of the proposed budget will go to economic services with an allocation of P3.2 billion, or 43 percent of the total budget. Of this amount, P1.8 million is intended to fund infrastructure projects; P50 million for land acquisition; P850 million for the metropolization development of the city; and P100 million for the maintenance and operation of the sanitary landfill.

Over P69 million will go to agricultural services and P2.4 billion for social services.

The 2020 budget also has a new item, the P500 million financial assistance to Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD).

Vice Mayor Rainier Joaquin Uy assured a thorough deliberation of the budget.

“For me, the amount does not matter, ang importante ma-address ang dapat ma address nga needs sa katawhan sa dakbayan regardless of the amount. Wala koy question ana (what’s important is the people’s needs will be addressed regardless of the amount),” he said.

“Sa P500 million nga ihatag sa COWD walay problema, as long as matubag ang problema sa panubig, walay problema kay bayaran man na, naa may agreement,” he added.
