THE Civil Registry Office of Cagayan de Oro City is urging couples applying for marriage licenses to apply through the online registration after noticing an influx of people visiting the office.

"Mas gi-encourage namo nga mag online sila para paspas ang... mahuman, dili kay sila mahago sa pagsulat (We encourage them to apply online so they can have it done fast, so they won't get tired of writing)," Maribel Guzman, marriage division chief of the City Civil Registry Office, said, adding that the applicants won't be having a hard time filling up the forms since the choices are already there.

According to Guzman, the online marriage license application started in May as a trial, and at present, it’s still available in the Cagayan de Oro City Government official website: www.cagayandeoro.gov.ph.

"Easier lugar for them og faster kay ang ilang (Its easier and faster for them since their) application for marriage license is ila na man gi-apply online, igo na lang mi mag print out pag abot sa office og ilang pirmahan. So dili sila mag take time sa office, dili sila magdugay didto, dali ra, mahuman ra daun ilang pag apply (already filled up and we only need to print them and when they visit the office, they just need to sign it. They wouldn't be spending a long time in the office and will complete their application right away)," Guzman said.

She added that even though they have the online application, it is still necessary for the applicants to visit the office for the other requirements needed to be submitted personally.

Requirements for the marriage license application, Guzman said, are still the same, which includes: cenomar (certificate of no marriage) with official receipt from the Philippine Statistics Authority, cedula, identification card, birth certificate, marriage counseling, and parent's signature.

There are marriage counseling conducted in the City Hall's 3rd floor bridge around 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. during Wednesday or Thursday.

For foreigner applicants, they must submit a certificate of legal capacity or certificate of no legal impediment to marry, issued by their respective embassy or consular office.

According to Guzma, the marriage application fee is worth P300.
