MISAMIS Oriental has recorded its first coronavirus disease (Covid-19)-related death.

The Opol, Misamis Oriental Inter-Agency Task Force (MisOr IATF), in its official statement, said the patient is a 34-year-old male locally stranded individual (LSI) from Manila and a resident of Barangay Barra.

The man is the first confirmed Covid-19 case in the municipality.

The 34-year-old man, according to the Opol, MisOr IATF, was stranded for five months in Tabang, Plaridel, Bulacan and worked as an engineer in a telecommunication company in the said area.

He arrived at the Laguindingan Airport on July 11 and was immediately brought to Opol Isolation Facility.

The man went through the rapid diagnostic test and the result came out negative. However, it was noted that he was weak and has complaints of chest pain.

He informed the IATF that he had a heart problem since 2018 and was inconsistently taking his maintenance medication for the past five months.

He was rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and was declared dead after doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation at 5:30 p.m.

Post-mortem swab was taken from the man and yielded a positive result in the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test.

The local government unit of Opol assured that they are taking all the necessary precautionary measures to avert the transmission of the Covid-19 in the area.

At present, the total number of Covid-19 confirmed cases in Misamis Oriental is at 25.
