MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano is leading student leaders in Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental in the fight against fake news.

Around 70 student leaders from various schools and colleges in the city and province joined the first convention early this week to formally launched the “No to fake news” advocacy.

Emano said the advocacy is supported by the Philippine Information Agency-Northern Mindanao and Provincial Communication Officers Network (PCO Net) in the aim to cut the spread of fake information either in the mainstream media or social networking sites.

The governor said fighting fake news is his personal advocacy as he had seen its adverse effects among the internet users especially the youth.

“Ang fake news maoy hinungdan nga mahagba ang nasud, ang pulo sa Mindanao, ang lalawigan ingon man ang dakbayan,” Emano said.
