CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno and other bets who are poised to win the local elections have filed a motion to lower the threshold by 90 percent for them to be officially proclaimed as winners while canvassing is still going on.

On Tuesday night, Moreno and top seven councilors, Vice Mayor Kikang Uy and 1st District Representative Klarex Uy filed the motion before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Lawyer Dale Mordeno said they asked the Comelec to lower the threshold in order to expedite the proclamation.

"This is to avoid confusion and suspense," he said.

He said it has been 3 days since the canvassing commenced but the Comelec is yet to proclaim winners.

He said Moreno and the top 1 to 7 councilors are consistently leading in the partial results, and the uncanvassed or the unaccounted votes will not anymore alter the results.

"We did not include the top 8 councilors because this might still be affected," he said.

The latest partial results show that Moreno is leading with 154,215 votes, followed by Pompee La Viña with 88,283 votes.

Also, lawyer Angeline Marie Carrasco-Geñoso, the legal counsel of the Uy's said the margin between Kikang and Councilor Nadya Emano is over 40,000 votes, while the lead of Kikang against Ian Acenas is over 58,000 votes.

The City Board of Canvassers forwarded the motions to the Comelec national office.

There is no response yet as of 7 p.m. Wednesday.
