Oro artist Gabutina wins design contest

KAGAY-ANON artist Patrick Uyguangco Gabutina won the Habi Kadayawan 2019 in Davao City for his Purong Bag.

Gabutina won the grand prize for the Fashion Accessories Professional Category of the fashion accessories design competition last week.

He won a cash prize worth P100,000 and an exposure at Manila FAME, the Philippines’ premier design and lifestyle trade fair.

The Purong Bag, he said, is inspired by the head dresses of the tribes of Bukidnon and Davao.

Gabutina said the bag is made of hinabul, with tikog fringes, leather straps and carved wood.

Gabutina is the Product Designer of Tinabuan Arts & Crafts of Lagonglong. He also work for the City Government as focal person of Hapsay Hapa project.

The Purong bag will be available at the Kahimunan Trade Fair which will run from August 16 to 28 at SM City Uptown. It will be sold for P5,000.
