THE Cagayan de Oro City Council has allocated P3 million for the House of Hope, a charitable institution established to shelter individuals who are mentally challenged.

The city council last year approved a memorandum of agreement (MOA) authorizing Mayor Oscar Moreno and House of Hope Foundation to enter into a partnership.

Under the MOA, the city committed to provide financial assistance worth P1 million each year.

But this year, the city decided to allocate P3 million for medical supplies and purchase of other facilities.

This, after the city government signed on February this year, the deed of donation of the 1.5 hectare lot at the House of Hope.

The signing of deed marks the transfer of ownership of the house from under the church to the local government unit.

The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro however will still manage the institution. (PJ Orias)
