THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro has earned the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Highly Urbanized City for promoting a “safe, empowering, and child-friendly environment" in the country.

The award was given by President Rodrigo Duterte himself to Mayor Oscar Moreno in a ceremony at the Rizal Hall of Malacañan Palace Thursday, November 28, 2019.

City Information Officer Maricel Casiño-Rivera said Cagayan de Oro's campaign is making the children of the city healthy and educated.

Rivera said the City Government has programs for the children from birth to 12 years old and up, such as maternity care program, creating child development centers, built over 600 classrooms, among others.

The city also passed Ordinance No. 13195-2017 or the Parental Responsibility Code and Ordinance No. 13394-2018 or the Comprehensive Children Welfare Code for the protection of children.

"It is my great pride and honor to share this national award to all Kagayanons, especially our partners and stakeholders who exerted their valuable efforts, time and resources for achieving this great accomplishment," Moreno said.
