ABOUT P1.1 billion has been earmarked to fund infrastructure projects of Cagayan de Oro this year.

The projects include the Ecopark Development of the old dumpsite with a fund of P35 million, as well as the construction of a waste facility in Pagalungan.

More child development centers will be expected, and construction of Bahay Tulugan for Indigenous Peoples, renovation of the Senior Citizens Building and improvement of the Boys Town and Home for the Elderly.

Proposed projects for 2019 also include the redevelopment of public markets and construction of commercial stalls at the Westbound Terminal. Approved last Monday, the city has a total budget of P6.3 billion this year.

A total of P2.4 billion is intended for economic services, P1.6 billion for general public dervices and P2.1 billion for social services.

Almost all of the majority bloc of the councilors voted for the approval of the budget except for Councilor Edna Dahino who was absent.

Opposition councilors Leon Gan, Nadya Emano-Elipe, and Lordan Suan voted against it, saying the budget was too much. Councilor Jun Acenas, also an opposition councilor, walked out of the session hall before the voting happened.
