CAGAYAN de Oro is aiming to inoculate 50,000 people during the three-day "National Vaccination Day" set to be held from November 29 to December 1, 2021, City Health medical officer Dr. Ted Yu said.

"We are maximizing all vaccination sites [during the National Vaccination Day]," Yu said, adding that they already wrote to different offices and agencies to have their nurses and doctors join the three-day vaccination event.

During the regular press briefing at city hall, Mayor Oscar Moreno said that Cagayan de Oro cannot achieve the herd immunity by December 25.

In order to achieve herd immunity, the city should have a total of 518,518 fully vaccinated individuals.

As of November 15, the city has 274,719 fully vaccinated people or 52.98 percent of the target herd immunity vaccinees. Those who received their first doses of the Covid-19 vaccines are 366,576 individuals.

This brought the number of total vaccines administered to 641,295.

Moreno said if the city will be able to reach the 50,000 people target during the National Vaccination Day, herd immunity in Cagayan de Oro could be achieved during the first week of January 2022.
