THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro is offering a P500,000 reward for those who can give information on the whereabouts of the person who shot a traffic enforcer during a road clearing operation in Barangay Puerto last February 28.

Mark Langam, a Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) officer, was taking a break with another traffic enforcer near Puerto Community Hospital when he was shot by unidentified assailants around 7 p.m. of February 28.

He was declared dead minutes after he was brought to the hospital.

City Administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a on Monday, March 2, wrote to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Northern Mindanao requesting assistance for the immediate resolution of the case.

Sabuga-a said the City Government condemns the killing of Langam, adding that he was only doing his job as a traffic enforcer.

Langam is part of the team enforcing the Department of the Interior and Local Government's (DILG) order on road clearing and tricycle ban on national highways.

Sabuga-a said there are already initial results of the investigation, especially since a CCTV (closed circuit television) footage was recovered by police.

Sabuga-a, however, refrained from giving more details, as it will tip off the shooter, whom he said, possibly reads and listens to news.

Sabuga-a said they already have a person of interest.

"But we can assure you nga naa nay person of interest," he added.

The acting city administrator also assured that the road clearing operations will continue.

"We have to continue. Tarong man ang atong ginahimo. Kanang mga threat, it's part of the challenges, gai-test ang imong sincerity to implement the law," Sabuga-a said.

Cagayan de Oro City Police Office spokesperson Major Ivan Viñas said they are still enhancing the CCTV footage and gathering eye witnesses who were at the crime scene.

Viñas said the cash reward for information on the gunman's whereabouts is a big help to their investigation.

"Kay kini mahimong sumbanan sa mga testigo nga mopatim-aw ug maghatag pamahayag ug sa dali nga kasulbaran sa maong panghitabo," he added.
