Security guards, police partnership urged

PJ Orias

TO HELP bolster crime prevention and security measures of the police, Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya has urged security agencies to craft a partnership with the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) to make security guards as "force multipliers."

In the past, Nacaya said an agreement of the same nature was also forged.

He said security guards are present in almost all establishments; therefore, they can strategically report crimes in their areas.

"If we have them as force multipliers, we can expect a fast and active policing system and activity in our city," the councilor said.

Aside from strengthening force multipliers, Nacaya said the city should put more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in every corner of city streets.

In Cogon Public Market, some 48 new CCTV cameras have been installed to ensure public order and swift solution of crimes in the city's busiest market.

The P2 million worth of CCTV cameras can pan, tilt and zoom up to 200 meters in the surrounding areas.

Nacaya said theft incidents in Cogon market has since decreased because of the installed CCTVs.
