Luczon: Summer what?

Nef Luczon

WHEN I was in elementary, although it was pleasant that there are no longer classes because it's "summer" break, over time it was a dreadful experience killing some free time.

I was not the enthusiastic kid who likes summer workshops either (and was quite of my regrets), so it was up to me on how should I improve my skills set on my own.

That is why if there are opportunities that you can improve your children outside the boundaries of schools, do so, but you need to look and observe on what areas your children take interest on.

Understandably, not all will get the kind of perks. As nowadays, some summer clinics have quite expensive rates. But there will be groups or organizations that will hold free workshops, something that parents should look out to.

But even these free workshops are hard to come by. What is important that there will be no time wasted in utilizing summer breaks without developing their potential talents and skills. Maybe, helping household chores can be a good summer workshop for them.

In fact, I am glad I have dutiful children that would not complain if they were given tasks in the house. Had it been me, I remember pulling off some tantrums and my late mother would start an almost endless litany of her struggles on taking care of me.

Over time, these children will grow up, and soon will take over the reigns in running this country. Imagine how would "Gen Z" (or whatever generation they will be called) manage the future. In a time where almost everyone is expected to know things and have skills to contribute to the nation's productivity.

But even before there will always be that disparity. That children we see in schools now, they will be segregated according to the comeuppance brought by economic situation and fate of their parents. At the end, they will still be a reflection of us, of who we are and how we lived according to economic class and social status, and privilege. Because the System says so.
