Green CdeO Eagles caging enters semis

Lynde Salgados

WITHOUT a doubt, they have the most potent roster in the league. But after narrowly missing the top-2 slots carrying a twice-to-beat advantage, Team Mugot reinforced by power forward Jan Babiera, dominant center Bernard Limocon and lethal guard tandem of Cyrus Diango and Anton Pabillore may go through the gauntlet in its bid to win the 3rd President's Cup Green CdeO Eagles basketball tournament in Cagayan de Oro.

Team Mugot dribblers were still playing with the dangerous Team Butron hoopsters as of Saturday pm, March 29 in a knockout match at the Nazareth gym of which a victory will get them to face either the No.1 Team Pagulong or the No.2 Team Doc Somido in the big four round.

"I know that we have a good chance for the championship. Pero hangak kaayo kay peldihon pa namo ang Team Butron unya twice-to-beat ang kontra pag-abot sa semis round," Team Mugot pointguard Pabillore, a former backcourt partner of Johnny Abarrientos during their UAAP days with the FEU Tamaraws, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

The 6-foot-2 Babiera, the Eagles hoopfest' leading scorer, and company crushed Team Butron, 82-64 in their final game assignment of the elimination round on Thursday night over at Scions, Kauswagan's open court. The win forced a four-way logjam among Team Pagulong, Team Somido, Team Mugot and Team Romuls Power with five wins and two losses each.

"Sayang, wala `mi kasulod sa top-2 sa tiebreaker, but let's take this as a challenge to make it to the championship round," Babiera said.

Also still in contention are Team Doc Neri and Team El Kap Frias.
