Oro’s Alcantara, US buddy make quarter round

FRESH from a runner-up finish last week, Cagayan de Oro’s Francis Casey Alcantara is on track for another title quest.

Alcantara and his American partner Nicholas Hu advanced to the quarterfinals of the US $25,000 Hong Kong F2 Futures lawn tennis men’s doubles tournament on Monday at the Victoria Park Tennis Stadium in Hong Kong.

This, after Alcantara and Hu made short works against the pair of Aziz Khan and Ching Ho Sunny Yue of host Hong Kong via 6-2, 6-2 win.

They will face whoever wins between Hong Kong’s Ching Lam and Hei Yin Andrew Li and the tandem of Aaron Addison of Australia and Karunuday Singh of India.

On Friday, Alcantara and his previous partner Chu-Huan Yi of Chinese-Taipei settled for second place in the Hong Kong F1 Futures.

Alcantara and Chu-Huan bowed to Hong Kong’s duo of Chun Hun Wong and Pak Long Yeung, 4-6, 2-4.

Wong and Yeung also made their presence in the Hong Kong F2 Futures and will face seed no. 1 Ti Chen of Chinese-Taipei and Rubin Statham of New Zealand in the first round.
