3 convicted in Vhong case

BUSINESSMAN Cedric Lee, model Deniece Cornejo and cohort Jed Fernandez were found guilty of grave coercion in the case filed by “It’s Showtime” host Vhong Navarro.

Cedric’s sibling, Berniece Lee, was acquitted in the same resolution penned by Taguig City Metropolitan Trial Court Judge Bernard Pineda Bernal.

Cedric, Cornejo and Fernandez could face jail time of up to three years.

This is related to the incident on Jan. 22, 2014 wherein Navarro was forced to sign a police blotter reporting an attempted rape against Cornejo, purportedly by the TV host.

The three people convicted claimed they made a citizen’s arrest on Navarro after catching him in the act of attempting to rape the model.

But Navarro’s lawyer Alma Mallonga told the Philippine Entertainment Portal that the court found enough evidence to back the host’s claim that he was mauled and threatened by Cedric’s group.

Mallonga said Navarro, who is currently in the US for “It’s Showtime’s” stateside show, is very happy with the conviction.

There is still a pending serious illegal detention case against the Lee siblings, Cornejo and Fernandez for the same incident.
