Constanilla: Antonio Cuenco: revive Visayan movies

Sam Constanilla

MOVIES. I agree with former Rep. Antonio Cuenco’s call that the Visayan movie industry should be revived. According to him, he is very much interested in spearheading a movement or advocacy on this particular issue. To me, this action should be supported by moneyed individuals and other well-meaning people.

VISAYANS. I also agree with Cuenco’s very valid observation that Visayans or Visayan-speaking individuals are all over the country, even in Luzon. These people, he stressed, are longing to watch locally produced movies with some of our fellow Manila-based Cebuano or Visayan actors and actresses as stars in them. The former legislator used to head Bisaya Films whose first and only production titled “Matod Nila” in the late ‘90s didn’t make money due to technical problems, particularly on the quality issue.

HOPE. I hope Cuenco’s advocacy will generate a lot of support from the public especially those whose intention is the same as his. He even mentioned taipans Lucio Tan and John Gokongwei as two of the possible film producers that can be asked to help. Cuenco told me Tan is interested in producing a film based on the life of Lapu-Lapu.

APPEAL. So those of you that are interested to support Cuenco’s movement may text me anytime. Let’s rally behind him and his worthy advocacy.
