Reuters reports that Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and the wife of Britain’s Prince Harry, sued the British tabloid “Mail” which published a private letter that she wrote.

The suit was said to redress a breach of privacy, infringement of copyright and a “campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories” about Markle and Prince Harry.

In a statement, Prince Harry said on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, that they took legal action in answer to what he called “bullying” by some sections of the British press.

A letter is a literary work which is protected by copyright under our Intellectual Property Code. Under Article 723 of our New Civil Code, letters are owned by the person to whom they are addressed and delivered but they cannot be published or disseminated without the consent of the writer or his heirs.
