EVERY place has its charms and Cebu City is no exception. “Arkisketchers Cebu,” a group of Cebu-based architects with a passion for painting, presented the Queen City through its exhibit titled “Cebu in Watercolor.”

It was a three-week long exhibit that started in Dec. 15 and held in the Taft East Gate Showroom located on Cardinal Rosales Ave., Cor. Juan Luna Ave., Mabolo, Cebu City.

“Arkisketchers Cebu” was established three to four years ago and is composed of more than 15 members with a shared fondness for watercolor. Since the group was formed, it had four exhibits with works inspired by Cebu, historical and tourist spots of the city, as well as other parts of the Visayas region.

For the exhibit “Cebu in Watercolor,” the group presented artworks focusing not only on the historical and tourist spots but also the locals’ livelihood and lifestyle.

Why watercolor?

“It’s a difficult medium. We created this group so we can coach each other and learn from each other,” shared architect Loloy Castro, one of the members of the group, adding further that apart from watercolor being difficult to use, its predictability also presents another challenge for artists. Castro also shared that the group holds art workshops throughout the year.

Part of the proceeds of “Cebu in Watercolor” goes to the Cancer Warriors Foundation Inc. Cebu chapter to help buy vials needed for chemotherapy for children with cancer. In purchasing an artwork, one not only gets a colorful piece of the city but also helps in return.

“Since they are called cancer warriors, we will also be their warriors. We will fight for them,” added Castro.
