STRAIGHT from abroad, balikbayans were in for a treat in the annual fiesta welcome by the “Balik Cebu” committee. Balikbayans—Filipinos visiting or returning to the Philippines after a period of living in another country—convened at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu to enjoy good food and entertainment last Jan. 17, Thursday.

Now on its 16th year, “Balik Cebu” continues its annual tradition of preparing a hearty welcome for balikbayans to celebrate the Sinulog Festival.

“Balikbayans continue to come home every year for the Sinulog festival. So, it’s only right that we put together a program, especially to welcome Cebuanos who are coming home to visit and to celebrate the fiesta,” said the chairperson of the “Balik Cebu” committee, Tetta Baad.

Earlier in the day, balikbayans were welcomed by “Balik Cebu” upon their arrival at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The organizers distributed freebies and prepared entertaining performances.During the evening celebration at The Terraces, “Balik Cebu” served Cebuano dishes for balikbayans to satisfy their homesick taste buds.

Aside from the good food, they were also entertained by various performances prepared by the committee. The Sinanduloy Cultural Group performed several cultural dance performances. A fashion show featuring stunning and creative festival costumes was also a highlight.

And just as the program was about to end, the crowd went into a festive mood more as they joined The Sinanduloy Cultural Group for the traditional Sinulog Dance on the dance floor.

The “Balik Cebu” welcome dinner has been hosted by Cebu Holdings Inc., Ayala Malls and Ayala Center Cebu since 2004.
