In motion with the Lords

Nelia G. Neri

IN the ‘60s, dance parties were called “jam sessions” and those were usually organized by teen groups. One such group called themselves the “Lords.” And indeed, they were lording it over the party scene then... Boy Franco, Loloy Unchuan, Dennis Mendoza, Gandi Gandionco, Herbert Cang, Tinoy Reyes, Jeffren Pages, Willie Gonzales, Jess Cuenco, Mosing Selma, Mari Osmeña, Nick Torres... those were the days. Completing the group were Choy Ramos, Bebe Chiu, Charles Ybañez, Boy Mercado, Rene Fuentes, Gil Zamora, Jack Darza, Isyot Pilapil, Manolet Garcia and Bobby Lee.

To celebrate its 50th year, the group organized a grand celebration at Casino Español de Cebu last March 2, reliving the decades of the ‘60s and the ‘70s. Among the party belles were three of the “Five Prettiest Girls of the Lords” chosen in 1968... Chanda Romero, Joyce Garcia Dizon and Sharon Pelaez Mendezona. Missed were Las Vegas-based Baebi Espina Walmsley and Melinda Garcia who had an out-of-town trip. Very much around too were the Lords’ honorary ladies, Jean Franco and Socorro Grey.

It was a blast for the once-upon-a-time “Guys and Dolls” who came together to re-connect and reminisce, and to dance, dance, dance the night away!
