MORE than 250 passengers bound for Olango Island and other areas were stranded at two small ports in Lapu-Lapu City after maritime officials barred passenger motorbancas from sailing due to rough sea condition on Monday, August 5, 2019.

In a press release, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan immediately went to check the stranded passengers and even brought food packs and water for them.

The stranded passengers were waiting for motorbancas at the Punta Engaño and Angasil ports.

Nagiel Bañacia, Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management head, said some of the stranded passengers were not only heading for Olango Island, but also to Bohol as well.

Aside from stranded passengers, Chan and CDRRM personnel also assisted those coming from Olango Island who are seeking medical assistance in Lapu-Lapu City.

Coast Guard personnel are on standby in Punta Engano and Angasil wharfs to prevent passenger motorbancas from leaving Mactan or take passengers while sea conditions remains rough. (JKV/ with PR)
