SOME motorcycle riders continue to ignore warnings that bike lanes are only for bicycles.

Thirty-one motorcycle riders were apprehended by traffic personnel in Mandaue City for using bike lanes along A.C. Cortes Avenue on Friday morning, July 29, 2022.

Edwin Anthony Jumao-as, executive director of Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said traffic violators were issued citation tickets with a corresponding fine of P500.

Bike lanes were installed in some parts of Metro Cebu after the number of people using bicycles to get to work increased due to the lack of transportation during the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

On June 3, 2022, the agency had given traffic violators a seven-day grace period to settle their fines or face arrest via a bench warrant.
