AROUND 3.5 million people visited Cebu City during the Sinulog grand parade last Sunday, Jan. 20.

Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said the crowd estimate includes those outside the parade route and at the Basilica del Sto. Niño.

“The estimate that the police earlier gave was only along the parade route and the Basilica. But they did not include alternative routes like Labangon, V. Rama, Capitol, Capitol, Escario up to Bulacao area,” he said.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Gen. Debold Sinas said that despite the number of people who visited the city for a day, the holding of the event was successful.

“The event is very successful with a record number of participants both devotees and audience. It went beyond our expectation. We're able to meet the challenges,” he told reporters.

Sinas and the heads of the different committees involved in the Sinulog 2019 celebration held a formal termination of multi-agency coordinating center for Sinulog 2019, Tuesday, Jan. 22.

In the aspect of crowd control, Sinas said they just tolerated some revelers along the street, while maintaining order and safety.

There are also no major injuries recorded during the Sinulog grand parade.

Sinas said that according to their assessment, there are some areas where they need to improve on. He said they will make sure to address them in next year's celebration of the Sinulog.
