NON-RESIDENTS of Alcoy town in southern Cebu are prohibited from swimming in all beaches within the territorial jurisdiction of the municipality.

Alcoy Mayor Michael Angelo Sestoso issued Thursday, August 19, Executive Order (EO) 2021-034 to enforce such rule as a way to contain the spread of the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Sestoso, in his EO, directed the Alcoy police, all barangay officials and the local disaster risk reduction and management personnel to implement the order and monitor compliance of non-residents.

He said violators will be apprehended and penalized in accordance with existing ordinances and laws.

Sestoso said that during their meeting with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia last August 17, they were informed that Alcoy is one of the 10 top ranking local government units in Cebu in terms of Covid-19 cases.

As of August 15, the municipality recorded 35 active Covid-19 cases and six additional Covid-19 deaths.

Alcoy has been placed under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions since August 12, 2021.
