AN Australian tourist and his two Filipino companions are facing criminal charges in court for writing the word “bombing” on the mirror of their hotel room.

Prosecutor Jillann Paculba-Gealon found evidence to charge Australian Jamie Allan Morgan and his Filipina companions – Carmiel Marie Pasco and Myla Tugbong – with violation of Presidential Decree 1727, or the Anti-Bomb Joke Law.

“The word ‘bombing’ was written on the mirror of Morgan’s room, a threat... that created public confusion and disorder,” Gealon wrote.

Nicanor Negre, a housekeeper of Cebu Grand Hotel, in his affidavit said that he was conducting a routine cleanup of all the rooms in the hotel last April 29, 2018, when he saw what the three had done.

When he entered the room occupied by the accused, Negre said, he saw the word “bombing” written on the mirror; a traveling bag was placed under the table.

The suspects were not inside the room when the housekeeper discovered the writing.

Alarmed by what he saw, Negre reported the matter to their security personnel, who reported the incident to the police.

A Swat team arrived and found no bomb in the room.

Police arrested Morgan upon his return to the hotel. Pasco and Tugbong were arrested in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City.

Bail was set at P30,000 for each accused. (GMD)
