Justin K. Vestil

ONE out of the more than 400 job order employees hired by the Municipal Government of Barili, southwest Cebu tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise drug test conducted by the town officials on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022.

A notice for termination is set to be issued against the job order employee, who is assigned in the town’s Social Welfare Office.

In a statement sent to SunStar Cebu on Friday, Aug. 4, the municipal government, led by Mayor Pablo John “John-John” Garcia IV, conducted the surprise drug test for its 464 job order employees assigned in the executive and legislative offices.

The Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Office, led by its head Mary Jane Pañares, conducted the surprise drug test at the town hall’s conference room.

Drug-free workplace

The drug test was in line with Garcia’s thrust to maintain a drug-free workplace and to make Barili a drug-free town.

After Garcia assumed as mayor, he told the town employees that those who are using illegal drugs will be dealt with accordingly.

Drug-cleared barangays

At present, 21 of the 42 barangays of the town have been declared drug-cleared.

Among the efforts done in order to achieve a drug-free municipality status is to maintain a drug-free workplace by conducting periodic drug tests. (PR)
